Following Professor Xavier helping tear down the mental barrier that stopped her powers from maturing, Rogue headed off to be alone with her thoughts.

Rogue sits by herself on the edge of a cliff, looking out at the horizon.

Gambit appears behind Rogue.  “Chere?”

Rogue glances over her shoulder and smiles.  “Hey, sugah.”

Gambit holds up a bottle.  “I brought you some water.”

Rogue stands up, dusts herself off and takes the bottle from Gambit.  “Thanks Remy,” she says.  “Ah appreciate it.”  She then unscrewed the cap off the bottle and took a drink.

“You’ve been up here for a while,” says Gambit.  “Feel like you’re gettin' anywhere?”

Rogue touches her head and sighs.  “Ah don’t know,” she says.  “Ah feel different.  Like somethin' has changed inside of me.”

“Do you think wh' th’ professor did work?” asks Gambit.

“Can’t say,” replies Rogue.  “Ah mean the thought of having full control over my powers is somethin' Ah never thought was possible.”

“I know the feelin’,” says Gambit.

“But the professor was right about one thing,” says Rogue as she gives Gambit a look.  “Ah’ll never know unless Ah try.”

“You sure you’re ready t’ try?” asks Gambit.

“Ah’m sure,” answers Rogue.  “Bigger question is.  You still willin' to be my guinea pig?”

Gambit smirks.  “You even have t’ ask?”

“Well then,” says Rogue as she takes a deep breath, walks towards Gambit and places her hands on his face.   “Here goes nothin’.”

They both wrap their arms around each other and kiss.  As time passed, nothing happened.  They then separated.

Rogue starts crying.

“What’s wrong, Anna?” asks Gambit as he touches Rogue’s face.  “Nothin’ bad happened.  You’ve got control.”

“Ah know, Remy,” says Rogue as she wipes away her tears and smiles.  “Ah’m happy.”

Gambit smiles.

They both lean in close and touch foreheads.

“This is the happiest day of my life,” whispers Rogue.

“Maybe I can make it even happier,” whispers Gambit.

Rogue steps back and stares, confusingly.  “Remy?”

Gambit gets down on one knee.  “Anna.”  He then pulls out a ring.

Rogue gasps and cups her hands over her mouth.

“I’ve been carrying dis ‘round for a long time,” says Gambit.  “Waitin’ for th’ right time t’ ask you.  I’ve wanted you since th’ first day I saw you.  I know I’m th’ thief, but you’re th’ one who ended up stealing my heart.”

Rogue struggles to hold back her tears.

“What this ring here represents,” says Gambit as he holds up the ring, “is a promise to love you.  Forever.”

Tears stream down Rogue’s face.

“Anna will you marry me?” asks Gambit.

Rogue smiles and cries, “Yes!”

Gambit smiles and places the ring on Rogue’s finger.  He then stood up and kissed her.

They both wrapped their arms around each other, neither wanting to let the other go.

“Ah love you, Remy,” whispers Rogue.

“I love you too, Anna,” whispers Gambit.

They hold this embrace for a long time.

The end.
I've always enjoyed reading about Gambit and Rogue and really wanted to write a fan fiction about them.  I drew a lot of inspiration for this from X-Men Legacy Issue #224 (Salvage).

SPOILER ALERT

In case none of you have read it, the Salvage arc dealt with Rogue gaining complete control of her powers.  She kissed Gambit to see if it worked.  It did.  Sadly, nothing came of their relationship following this.  I felt the scene and these two deserved more.  So I decided to give what myself and other Romy fans have been craving for a long time: a proposal!

I hope y'all enjoy reading it, especially my fellow Romy fans.  I plan on writing more in the future.  Perhaps a follow up to this one.  So stay tune!
